I like the blue button than new red/orange, i wonder why new design was released, do you have team to analyze for color/shape/design/user behavior/competitor button/etc.
Did you try to test A/B in demo site between your button and other competitor button, how user interact with these button? your button stand out or rival button stand out
Did you analysis competitor button color, what color they use, when your color/design present beside them, it drop or stand out
I think you choose red/orange color because this color use on all google+ button, it’s button theme color also same on new google+ logo design (I prefer old logo design too)
facebook use deep blue, twitter use light blue so you don’t want blue shade color then new google+ theme color come with red/orange = brick color
